NICTA Headquarters

Australian Technology Park, Eveleigh, Sydney, New South Wales

The NICTA Building responds sensitively to its heritage context whilst employing a configuration, environmental initiatives and technology appropriate to the workplace of the future.

The building is located at Australian Technology Park which has been overlaid onto former rail yards near central Sydney. The adaptive re-use of adjacent heritage buildings establishes a unique industrial character that contrasts with its Technology focus.

Fixed louvres to the typical facades minimise solar heat loads and maximise tenant comfort by controlling glare and reflectivity.

The six external service cores include day-lit bathrooms, stairs and lifts, and help reduce exposure to low angle sun on the eastern and western facades while celebrating the buildings mechanics and vertical circulation. Their weathered steel cladding responds to the solidity and aging of the heritage context.

The resultant open plan internal workspaces achieve a high degree of fit-out and subdivision flexibility, and an enhanced sense of community and interaction.
