Director / Executive Chair
Patrick Ness is principal director of our Melbourne. He is also a member of the Cox Board, the Cox International committee and the Cox Design and Marketing committee.
Patrick graduated with first class honours from the University of Melbourne. He began his career with the Melbourne office of Peter McIntyre and with Williams Boag in Hong Kong. He subsequently joined Cox Architecture in 1993 as a director and has been a galvanising and driving force ever since.
Patrick’s chief role is as concept designer for our Melbourne-based projects, including architectural and urban planning projects. In this role, he has generated the thinking behind many of Melbourne’s renowned buildings as well as for significant international buildings.
Architecture of note in Patrick’s portfolio includes the AAMI Park (Rectangular) Stadium in Melbourne Park, the National Tennis Centre expansion, the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment, The Conservatory apartment tower in Melbourne, the 567 Collins Street office tower in Melbourne, Hepburn Springs Bathhouse in Victoria and Melbourne City Library.
He also provides national design expertise in the sports, education and transport sectors. Renowned education projects include Building G of the Chisholm Institute in Victoria and the Footscray Nicholson Learning Commons at Victoria University. Transport projects include North Melbourne Rail Station and South Morang Rail Station in Melbourne.
Patrick’s passion is for urban regeneration, the knitting together of communities and urban precincts, and the integration of educational campuses with their wider contexts. Pat views Architecture as a critical catalyst for community development and as such each building and each project must be viewed broadly and through a variety of lenses.
