Anna Meares Velodrome

Chandler, Brisbane, Queensland

The Anna Meares Velodrome is a new indoor track facility located at the southern end of the Sleeman Sports Complex at Chandler in Queensland.

A significant driver for the project is the provision of a facility suited to the staging of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Cycling.

The Velodrome forms a strong and dynamic ‘completion’ of the southern precinct of the Sleeman Complex.

The Velodrome facility contributes connecting plaza spaces that augment and enhance the existing suite of sporting facilities at the complex, with a particular focus on the creation of a ‘Cycle Precinct’ alongside the BMX track.

The project is notable for its large saddle-form roof of over 10,000m2 in area. The large steel superstructure is clad on the walls and roof with a combination of opaque and translucent Tensioned Membrane Fabric.
